Role Summary: The Head of Business Development will provide senior strategic leadership of business development to grow market share and increase income through planning and overseeing marketing, lead generation and commercial expansion. He/ she is expected to develop an aggressive go to market strategy along with overall portfolio management and P&L. S/he is responsible for achievement of agreed sales / income targets and KPIs, taking a lead on implementing, reporting on and reviewing sales and marketing plans in order to drive revenue and increase market share.
As part of the ‘Senior Management Team’, this position requires experienced and proactive leadership which drives performance and growth in line with the company’s values, commercial planning, budgets and forecasts, ensuring targets are met and, where possible, exceeded.
Strategy: The role holder is tasked with a leading strategic role where he executes outreach strategies for prospecting new businesses. S/he is responsible for the establishment of strategic frameworks for capitalizing on identified opportunities across the business and approaching new prospects.
Opportunity: Role holder keeps an eye out for any opportunity that may arise in the BD space. In this capacity, the role holder, targets prospects by establishing and building key relationships across the hierarchy of the client organization and managing production of key thought leadership content and case studies. S/he is responsible for the identification of new business opportunities and spearheads the pitching of business opportunities to new consumers and the generation of new leads.
Relationship Management: The role holder builds and maintains relationships with potential and existent customers, departmental heads and executives across the business for the purpose of imparting useful strategic insights and to ensure the successful outcome of business initiatives and projects across the business. S/he establishes and maintains direct contact with prospective business’s consumer base in order to secure value for the business from these relationships and identify new opportunities for further business growth.
Analytics: The role holder plays an analytical role where s/he leads gathering of relevant market and performance information across the businesses, conducts analyses for improved strategy formulation and informed decision- making, resulting in the improvement of performance across the business. In this position, role holder conducts regular performance, marketing and competitive analyses of high-value investment projects for the business in order to identify business opportunities and avail insights for strategic decision-making.
Collaboration: This position demands high collaboration with the business’s senior executives and stakeholders in overall strategy formulation to ensure that departmental strategies are aligned and conflict of interests are avoided, guaranteeing a unified front in the business’s direction. The role holder works with prospective business executives in negotiations from conception all the way to the completion of transactions. In this collaborative role, s/he will also work with the marketing and design teams in creating engaging content that will serve to attract prospects to the business. Additionally, s/he works with the HR department in establishing the hiring and recruitment criteria for the department, maintaining a consistent and high departmental performance standard.
Leadership/Supervisory role: The role holder plays a leadership role within the business being the executive in charge of the Business Development. S/he manages and prioritizes the business’s pipelines. S/he oversees the generation of proposals that are suited to prospective clients with the support of the other teams. S/he leads the business development team by providing support to individual departments, inclusive of overseeing key member recruitment and training, hence, ensuring a consistent stellar performance throughout the business development department.
Who is s/he: The prospective ‘Head of Business Development’, must have had similar experience working in a senior business development position within a fast-paced and dynamic CDMO environment. The candidate will have proven and successful experience in prospecting and lead generation, leading to a business’s revenue generation and increased productivity as well as experience establishing and managing key client relationships. S/he will also have a proven ability to identify potential for valuable long-term relationships with consumers, hence encouraging retention of their business and, therefore, extended revenue generation and profitability from such avenues. A suitable candidate will have a proven and successful ability to work with teams across the business in order to maximize the impact of overall business effort. He will be thoroughly familiar with pipeline management and have an equally clear understanding of financial forecasting and planning.
